Becoming a Member

The Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region has a rolling enrollment.  The first year of membership is referred to as the “Provisional Year.” The provisional year serves as an introduction to the league as well as an orientation. 

Objectives of the Provisional year:

  • Review the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region’s history, accomplishments and past projects
  • Present an overview of the League's committees and their functions
  • Provide an understanding of the League's by-laws and operations
  • Help new members make positive connections with current League members through mentoring, socials and volunteer opportunities
  • Promote relationship building among the provisional class
  • Provide hands-on volunteer opportunities within the community
  • Complete a Provisional project

What is a Provisional?

A provisional is a new member in training. You spend the first year learning about the league and its committees. Most women form a bond with their provisional class as they learn about all the ways to develop their leadership training skills all while making lifelong friendships.


What is an Active?

An “Active” member is one who is currently in good standing and volunteering their time and talents within the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region.  Active members have full voting privileges and are expected to meet all membership obligations as outlined in our Bylaws.

What is a Sustainer?

A “Sustaining” member is one who has given at least seven years of active service in good standing  and wishes to remain in the league.  Sustainers must meet all financial obligations of membership, but have no other requirements and no voting privileges.

I am new to the region, and I don’t know anyone who is a member of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region. Can I still join?

Yes! Submit an online request to get information to join, and you will quickly meet many more women.


What is the age criteria for membership into the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region?

We welcome all ages.


I was an active member of another League and have recently moved to the area, do I need to restart my Provisional Year in order to become a member of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region?

In most cases if you have completed your Provisional year at another Junior League you can transfer your membership. In order to transfer your membership you must contact your current League and ask them to transfer your membership to the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region via the AJLI (Association of Junior Leagues International) e-Transfer system.


What is the financial obligation for the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region?

An Annual Membership is $134.  However, a provisional pays less during their provisional year.
