Government Advocacy and Affairs (GAA) Committee

The Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region is united with nine Junior Leagues in Michigan under the Michigan State Council of Junior Leagues (MSC). Each League has one or more representatives that sit on the State Public Affair Committee (SPAC). SPAC serves as the advocacy arm for these Leagues and chooses a new focus area every few years.

Our current statewide focus is to combat the Human Trafficking of women and children, through anti-trafficking and victim protection laws and to improve School Nutrition, through a Farm to School program, currently in its early stages.

Together with the MSC, SPAC hosts a Day at the Capitol in Lansing, which is an opportunity for us to advocate in the legislative process.

SPAC Meetings

Anyone interested in SPAC as a future placement is encouraged to attend one of the scheduled committee meetings and MSC trainings.

Meetings are the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9-11 a.m. Location in Lansing but specifics TBD.

**Please note that March 18, 2015 has been scheduled for this League year’s Day at the Capitol. Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend!
